AI Ethics and Responsible Use Policy
Ensuring transparency, originality, and ethical standards in AI-assisted scholarly writing
Sana'a University Journal of Applied Sciences and Technology (SUJAST) recognizes the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in academic research and scholarly writing. To preserve academic integrity, transparency, originality, and ethical research standards, authors must comply with the following principles regarding the use of AI technologies.
1. Transparency and Disclosure
Authors must clearly disclose any use of AI-based tools or systems (such as ChatGPT, Grammarly AI, Copilot, or similar technologies) in the preparation of the manuscript. The disclosure should specify:
- The name of the AI tool used
- The purpose of its use
- The extent of assistance provided
This disclosure should appear in a separate section titled: "Declaration of AI-Assisted Technologies" or within the acknowledgments section.
2. Human Responsibility and Accountability
Authors remain fully responsible for:
- The originality
- Accuracy
- Validity
- Interpretation
- Ethical compliance
- And final content of the manuscript
Important: AI tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot assume responsibility for scholarly work.
3. Permissible Uses of AI
Language Editing
Grammar correction and improving readability
Formatting Assistance
Help with document formatting and structure
Data Organization
Organizing and structuring research data
Coding Support
Assistance with programming and code development
Preliminary Idea Generation
Brainstorming and initial concept development
4. Prohibited Uses of AI
The following uses are not permitted:
Generating falsified data, images, references, or results
Producing substantial scientific content without critical human contribution
Fabricating citations or sources
Manipulating peer review processes
Plagiarism or undisclosed AI-generated writing presented as original scholarship
5. Confidentiality and Data Protection
Authors must ensure that no confidential, sensitive, or unpublished data are uploaded to AI systems in violation of ethical standards, privacy laws, or institutional regulations.
Data Privacy Notice: Always anonymize sensitive data before using AI tools and ensure compliance with applicable data protection regulations.
6. Editorial Rights
Request Clarification
The journal reserves the right to request clarification regarding AI usage from authors.
Reject Manuscripts
Manuscripts involving unethical or undisclosed AI practices may be rejected.
Use Detection Tools
The journal may use AI-detection or plagiarism-screening tools where appropriate.

Authors are encouraged to use AI tools responsibly as assistive technologies while maintaining full accountability for their scholarly work. Transparency, originality, and ethical compliance remain the cornerstones of academic publishing at SUJAST.
