Editorial Independence Policy
Transparency and integrity in editorial decisions
Sana'a University Journal of Applied Sciences and Technology (SUJAST) is fully committed to maintaining complete editorial independence at all stages of the editorial process. The journal ensures that decisions regarding the acceptance, rejection, revision, or withdrawal of any scholarly work are made solely on the basis of academic quality, originality, and adherence to ethical standards, without any external influence.
General Principle
The Sana'a University Journal of Applied Sciences and Technology (SUJAST) is fully committed to maintaining complete editorial independence at all stages of the editorial process. The journal ensures that decisions regarding the acceptance, rejection, revision, or withdrawal of any scholarly work are made solely on the basis of academic quality, originality, and adherence to ethical standards, without any external influence.
Independence of the Editorial Board
- The Editor-in-Chief and editorial board members have full authority to make final editorial decisions.
- The publisher (Sana'a University) or any owner, funder, or sponsor has no right to interfere in individual publication decisions.
- Editorial authority is exercised according to objective scientific criteria and in alignment with international best practices in academic publishing.
Separation of Administration
The journal maintains a clear separation between:
- Administrative or financial aspects (including any article processing charges, if applicable)
- Academic editorial decisions
No financial or administrative consideration influences the acceptance or rejection of any manuscript.
Integrity of Peer Review
- The journal relies on an independent peer review system (double-blind or as publicly stated)
- Reviewers are selected based on their expertise and disciplinary knowledge
- Editorial decisions are made exclusively based on objective peer review reports
- No external party is allowed to influence the peer review process or its outcomes
Conflict of Interest
- Editorial board members and reviewers are required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest
- In cases of real or perceived conflict, the individual is excluded from handling the manuscript
- Neither the Editor-in-Chief nor any board member may make decisions on manuscripts in which they have authorship, co-authorship, or a direct personal or professional connection
Protection of Academic Freedom
The journal supports academic freedom and responsible scholarly expression, provided that research adheres to recognized ethical and legal standards. Manuscripts are not rejected for ideological, political, or religious reasons, as long as they meet accepted standards of quality and scientific methodology.
Handling Pressures or Interference
In the event the journal or its editorial team is subjected to external pressures (political, institutional, financial, or personal) to influence editorial decisions, the following steps are taken:
- The incident is documented
- It is reviewed by the editorial board
- A decision is made independently based solely on scientific criteria
Transparency and Accountability
- This policy is published on the journal's website to ensure transparency
- It is periodically reviewed to maintain alignment with international standards and indexing requirements, including DOAJ criteria
- Authors or readers may contact the journal if they have concerns regarding editorial independence
