The Effectiveness of a Program Based on the Literature Circles Strategy in Developing Critical Reading Skills among Secondary School Students in Sana’a Governorate

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of a program based on the literature circle strategy in developing critical reading skills among secondary school students in Sana'a Governorate during the second semester of the academic year (2024-2025). It employed two implementation methods: descriptive and quasi-experimental. To achieve the study's objective, a list of critical reading skills, a test, and an educational program were prepared. The study tools were presented to a group of referees to assess their validity. The study sample consisted of (60) male first-year secondary school students, who were equally divided into two groups: Experimental and control groups were randomly selected from two government schools (November 30th and October 14th) that were chosen purposively to represent the study sample. The study results showed a statistically significant difference at the significance level of (0.05). The difference between the mean scores of the two groups (experimental and control) in the post-test of critical reading skills, in favor of the experimental group, is attributed to the experimental group's use of the literature circle strategy. In light of these results, the researcher recommends the necessity of using the literature circle strategy in teaching, as it emphasizes a holistic view of the elements of the educational situation.
