Abstract

This study aimed at determining the role of smart leadership with its dimensions (emotional intelligence, rational intelligence, and spiritual intelligence) on enhancing talent management, and exploring the level of achieving smart leadership and talent management in Yemeni private universities.

The study adopted the descriptive method through the surveying and correlational approaches. The study population represented the academic and administrative leaders (317) elements, in 5 universities out of 32 authorized private universities. A questionnaire was used as a data collection tool, distributed to a simple randomized sample consisting of (175) individuals. The results were analyzed using (SPSS 27).

The results showed that: there was a statistically significant role of the smart leadership with its dimensions on enhancing talent management in Yemeni private universities. The results showed high level of achieving smart leadership, and high level of achieving talent management despite the presence of some challenges related to talent retention.

The study recommended: enhancing the interest of smart leadership in Yemeni private universities, and utilizing it to enhance talent management in a way that ensures the sustainability of innovation and development in academic and administrative performance, while increasing awareness of the importance of talent management -considering talented individuals as intellectual capital and key assets in universities- and emphasizing the need to build integrated systems for talent retention, contributing to higher job satisfaction and reduced employee turnover rates.

Abstract

This study analyzes common linguistic errors in the academic writing of Sana'a University students from a descriptive linguistic perspective. It is based on a sample of 100 actual essays, randomly collected from the Faculties of Education, Sharia, and Commerce. The descriptive-analytical method was employed to identify and classify errors across four main linguistic levels: phonological, morphological, syntactic, and grammatical. These errors are then interpreted according to the models of interlinguistics as presented by modern linguistics.

The results reveaed a pattern of errors indicating the presence of a temporary “intermediate language” that forms in the student’s mind during academic writing, influenced by the local phonological system and the everyday oral environment. Spelling errors were found to top the list of recurrences at 92%, followed by grammatical errors at 4.3%, semantic errors at 4%, and morphological errors at 2.5%.

The study provided a qualitative and quantitative analysis of these linguistic deviations as systematic representations of a temporary internal deficiency in linguistic competencies, rather than as incidental disturbances. The study recommended proposing the development of databases for university language performance, which would pave the way for linguistic reforms based on realistic scientific analysis rather than preconceived normative judgments.

Abstract

This research addresses the principles of samāʿ (oral transmission) in Al-Khalidi's Bughyat al-Ṭālib wa Munyat al-Rāghib ʿalā Muqaddimat Ibn al-Ḥājib. The study analyzes Al-Khalidi's use of evidence from the Holy Qur'an, the Prophet's Hadith, poetry, historical reports, and Arab proverbs, clarifying his citation method through textual examples.

Adopting a descriptive-analytical approach, the study reveals that Al-Khalidi heavily relied on samāʿ for establishing grammatical rules, considering it the foremost foundation for argumentation and prioritizing it over other principles. He regarded it as a strong proof, following his Basran predecessors who had long adopted samāʿ as a foundational source. Furthermore, Al-Khalidi frequently criticized the views of the Kufans, which he deemed contrary to the attested speech of the Arabs. He also did not impose strict temporal or geographical limits on the Arab speech he used as evidence for grammatical rules.

The researcher found Al-Khalidi's book to be a rich and reliable source for codifying grammatical principles and reinforcing their authenticity through the validity and precision of samāʿ, which aids in the preservation and regulation of the Arabic language.

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the level of contributions of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to promoting social peace in the Republic of Yemen, by exploring their role across three main dimensions: (enhancing social participation, renouncing violence, and peacebuilding). The study also sought to identify the significance of differences in the respondents' perceptions regarding these contributions based on demographic and functional variables (gender, job title, years of experience, educational qualification, organization type, and organization age).

To achieve the study objectives, the researcher adopted the descriptive-analytical approach and used a questionnaire as the data collection instrument. The questionnaire consisted of (42) items distributed across the three dimensions and was administered to a sample of (386) employees working in local and international organizations in Yemen.

The study yielded several results, most notably: The overall level of CSOs' contributions to promoting social peace was (High) across all dimensions. The "Social Participation" dimension ranked first with an arithmetic mean of (3.92) and a relative weight of (78.40%), followed by the "Renouncing Violence" dimension with a mean of (3.77), while the "Peacebuilding" dimension ranked third with a mean of (3.73). The results also revealed statistically significant differences in the level of contributions attributed to the "Organization Type" variable across all dimensions, in favor of "International Organizations." Based on these findings, the study recommended the necessity of institutionalizing the partnership between the government and CSOs, and directing funding toward sustainable development projects that address the root causes of conflict.

Abstract

The study aimed to measure the impact of customs valuation determinants on achieving a fair customs value in Yemen, specifically in Sana'a, through customs valuation determinants, valuation database, capacity building, and customs enforcement procedures. The researcher adopted the descriptive correlational method and used a questionnaire as the study tool. The study population was limited to senior and middle management and specialists at the Yemen Customs Authority in Sana'a, totaling 320 employees. A sample of 230 questionnaires was distributed among employees of the Yemen Customs Authority in Sana'a, and 185 questionnaires were collected. Five outlier responses were excluded from the total of 185, resulting in 180 questionnaires included in the final statistical analysis, with a response rate of 74%. To conduct the necessary statistical analyses to determine the effects of the study variables, the SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) program and the Smart PLS (4PLS-SMART) program were used. The study reached several key findings, most notably: there is a statistically significant effect at the 0.05 significance level (α≥0.05) of the customs valuation determinants—namely, valuation database, capacity building, and customs enforcement procedures—on the fair customs value in the Yemeni Customs Authority in Sana'a, with positive relationships among the study variables. The study concluded with several recommendations, including: establishing a unified customs valuation database by the Yemen Customs Authority to achieve fair customs value for imported goods and merchandise; studying and preparing the use of the customs valuation database available in the ASYCUDA system; applying a principle of selection and appointment in customs valuation positions based on qualifications and experience; organizing regular professional training courses in the field of customs valuation. Additionally, the study recommended that the Yemen Customs Authority work on reducing customs clearance time to limit additional costs on purchase invoices and achieve fair customs value.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the impact of Human Resource Management (HRM) practices—namely human resource planning, recruitment and selection, training and development, rewards and compensation, occupational health and safety, and performance appraisal—on organizational performance. It also sought to assess the level of implementation of HRM practices and the level of organizational performance in mobile telecommunications companies in Sana’a Capital Secretariat. The study adopted a quantitative approach using the descriptive-analytical method. A questionnaire was employed as the primary data collection instrument. The study population consisted of all employees (1,648) working at the headquarters of three mobile telecommunications companies (Sabafon, YOU, and Yemen Mobile). A stratified random sampling technique was used to select the sample. A total of (313) questionnaires were distributed, of which (305) valid responses were analyzed, yielding a response rate of 97%.

The findings revealed that the level of implementation of HRM practices and the level of organizational performance were both high. The results also indicated a statistically significant effect of HRM practices on organizational performance. The study recommends strengthening and further developing HRM practices, ensuring greater support from top management, and aligning these practices with corporate strategies and development policies to enhance performance efficiency, achieve organizational objectives more effectively, and improve competitive capability.

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the role of administrative creativity in achieving a competitive advantage for the private Yemeni universities under investigation. Additionally, the study sought to identify the level of administrative creativity practices and its dimensions, as well as the extent to which competitive advantage has been realized within private Yemeni universities in the Capital Secretariat - Sana'a.

The study adopted a quantitative approach, utilizing both descriptive and analytical methods. A simple random sampling technique was employed, resulting in a sample of (281) participants representing the target population of (1024) academic and administrative leaders. A questionnaire was utilized as the primary tool for data collection.

The study reached several significant results, most notably: the existence of a moderate level of administrative creativity practice, where the "Fluency" dimension achieved the highest implementation, while "Risk-taking" was the lowest. Furthermore, the findings indicated a moderate level of focus on achieving competitive advantage, with "Flexibility" being the most realized dimension and "Cost" being the least. Finally, the results demonstrated a statistically significant positive role of administrative creativity in achieving competitive advantage for the private Yemeni universities in the Capital Secretariat - Sana'a.

Abstract

This research aimed to identify the effectiveness of a multimedia educational program based on the difference in learning strategies (individual and cooperative) in developing timeline reading skills in History among first-year secondary school students in Sana'a, the capital city. The researchers employed the experimental approach. To achieve the research objective, the researchers administered pre- and post-achievement tests. The research sample consisted of (60) first-year secondary school students from Khalid Ibn Al-Walid School (public) and Azal Al-Wadi School (private) in Sana'a, the capital city. The sample was divided into two experimental groups: the first experimental group, consisting of (30) students, used multimedia educational software based on an individual learning strategy, while the second experimental group, also consisting of (30) students, used multimedia educational software based on a cooperative learning strategy.

The results revealed statistically significant differences(0.05≥ a) between the mean scores of the two groups in favor of cooperative group 38.67)) compared to the individual group (23.67), with a large effect size (d=1.2). The study recommends adopting the media-supported cooperative learning strategy in teaching history.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the role of the Board of Directors, in its dimensions (supervisory commitment, oversight commitment, ethical commitment), in implementing governance in Yemeni banks, and to examine the level of application of governance principles, in its dimensions (transparency, accountability, fairness, responsibility), in Yemeni private banks. The study adopted a descriptive-analytical approach and used a questionnaire to collect data from a sample of 443 administrative and supervisory leaders in Yemeni private banks. Data were analyzed using SPSS. The study found that the Board of Directors in the banks under study adheres to its role in implementing bank governance at a high level, reaching 81%. It also revealed a statistically significant role of the Board of Directors in applying governance principles, as the Board explained 45.7% of the variance in the implementation of governance principles in the banks under study. The study recommended that the Central Bank update the Banks’ Governance Guide according to the latest international principles and best practices in governance. It also recommended enhancing the Boards of Directors in Yemeni banks to effectively apply governance principles by developing a comprehensive framework that includes clear policies and procedures to promote transparency, accountability, fairness, and responsibility at all organizational levels.

Abstract

The study aimed to examine the application of Total Quality Management on job performance development at the Ministry of Civil Service, within the framework of Quranic authenticity and the national vision, and to determine their relationship. The researcher used the descriptive-analytical approach, using a questionnaire on a sample of (197) employees from a population of (737). The study found the application of Total Quality Management achieved a high degree, and a 46% statistically significant effect of applying Quranic leadership and strategic guidance on job performance development. This is because Quranic leadership directs resources and efforts toward achieving goals, supports effective decision-making, and establishes a culture of institutional excellence and ethical commitment, positively reflecting on performance. Results also showed the job performance level in the ministry was high, attributed to employees' commitment to attendance and a strong professional culture despite difficult circumstances. Despite some limiting factors for development, the clarity of the national vision and its connection to employees' tasks enhances commitment and motivates improvement. In conclusion, the researcher recommended that administration is a responsibility rooted in servitude to God, enhancing Quranic leadership by building leaders' capacities, institutionalizing the national vision's principles, and removing obstacles to effective public service delivery.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate tenth-grade learners' attitudes toward the use of infographics in English language classrooms at schools in Hodeida Governorate. A quasi-experimental design was adopted using the control-and-experiment-groups method as well as pre- and post-tests. Data were collected through a 31-item closed-ended attitude scale based on a five-point Likert format. The attitude scale was administered to both groups (experimental and control) before and after the instructional intervention. The experimental group was taught using 40 infographics-based instructional materials, including pictures, tables, charts, drawings, and graphs, whereas the control group received instruction through the traditional teaching method.

The study sample consisted of 80 tenth-grade learners (40 in each group) from various schools during the 2025/2026 academic year. The results revealed statistically significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) in favor of the experimental group in the post-test, indicating a positive shift in learners' attitudes toward the use of infographics in teaching English. These findings suggest that integrating infographics into English language instruction can effectively enhance learner engagement and positive perceptions of learning. Accordingly, the study recommends that diverse visual materials be incorporated into English classroom teaching and that further research be conducted in different educational contexts to explore the broader impact of infographics-based instruction on learning English as a foreign language.

Abstract

This study investigates the patterns of educational technology use among Level I students at the Department of English, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Sana’a University, across nine core English courses. A quantitative descriptive design was employed using a questionnaire based on a reversed Likert scale (1=highest use, 5= lowest use), and weighted scores were calculated to produce descriptive statistics including mean, median, mode, standard deviation, range, and usage percentage. To identify statistically significant differences, one-way ANOVA and Post Hoc (Tukey HSD) tests were applied. The results reveal selective technology use, with students heavily relying on smartphones and general Internet tools, while larger devices, organized educational websites, and specialized applications remain underutilized due to the department lab’s poor infrastructure and frequent Internet interruptions. The findings are interpreted through constructivist and self-directed learning theories, as well as technology-supported frameworks (CALL, MALL, WALL, TPACK, SAMR). The study emphasizes that improving infrastructure and systematically integrating technology into the curriculum are essential for effective English language teaching.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of Urban Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting (URWH) on water availability and scarcity in Sana’a City, Yemen. Given the city’s chronic water shortages and irregular municipal supply, households rely increasingly on alternative sources. This research employs a qualitative exploratory approach to analyze the data collected through semi-structured interviews. A sample of 33 residents was determined based on the principle of data saturation, where interviews continued until no new themes or information emerged; the distribution (26 in Tahrir District and 7 in Al-Sab'een District) reflects the higher population density and more acute water distress in the traditional urban downtown of Tahrir. Additionally, 9 key stakeholders were selected using purposive sampling to ensure a multi-dimensional perspective, representing government water authorities, NGOs, and academia. Findings were derived through Inductive Thematic Analysis, involving systematic coding of interview transcripts to identify recurring patterns and consensus among participants. The results indicate that rainwater harvesting can significantly alleviate water scarcity during rainy months, particularly for low-income households. However, the utilization of rainwater in the areas under study is hindered by a host of barriers, including roof suitability, limited storage capacity, and lack of institutional support. The study highlights the potential of URWH as a locally appropriate adaptation strategy and emphasizes the need for targeted interventions, including the provision of storage tanks, technical guidance, and policy support to maximize its impact.
