Abstract

The study aimed to identify the impact of the abacus program in developing the skills of mental math and mathematical logical intelligence among students of the second cycle of basic education in the Capital of Sana’a. The researcher used the semi-experimental approach based on the design of one group with the test (pre-and subsequent test), and the study sample consisted of (31) students from grade 6 of Safiah School ' at Alsabeen sector' Sana’a capital in 2022-2023 studying year.

The students were trained on the program within two weeks after undergoing pretest, where the researcher prepared a test for each of (mental math, logical intelligence), each of them contains (30) paragraphs, and the stability coefficient using Alpha Kronbach for each of the previous tests (79%, 80%) respectively. To obtain the results, the data were processed using the statistical program SPSS and with statistical methods represented by arithmetic averages test (t-test) for two interrelated samples. The results confirmed that there is an impact of the program in developing the skills of mental math and logical intelligence in students.

These results showed that there are statistically significant differences between the averages of pre and subsequent tests results, for the skill of mental math, logical intelligence and this for subsequent test. The results also showed the program’s contribution to increasing the speed of performance in female students.

The researcher recommended the need to train students on the abacus because of its importance in activating the ability of thinking and increasing their average of intelligence, imagination and mental math.
