Abstract

The current study aimed at identifying the effectiveness of a proposed program based on biological innovations in developing biological enlightenment, scientific sense and love of learning among the student teachers in the Department of Biology, Faculty of Education, Sana'a University. The sample consisted of (30) student-teachers (males and females) who are enrolled in Level Four of Biology in the Faculty of Education at Sana'a University. The study adopted the descriptive method and the quasi-experimental approach (The one group design). The sample of the study was chosen randomly.

To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher prepared a list of biological innovations that consisted of (6) topics. She also built three lists, namely:  The biological Enlightenment List, the Scientific Sense List (cognitive and emotional), and Love of Learning Levels. To measure the variables of the study, the researcher prepared the following research tools: a Biological Enlightenment Test, the Cognitive Scientific Sense Test and the Questionnaire of the Scientific and Emotional Sense. These three research tools consisted of (20) items each. Moreover, the researcher built the measurement of the love of learning that consisted of (15) situations. Then, the researcher checked the validity and reliability of the tools and applied them to the research sample to collect the data.

The collected data were analyzed statistically and the results showed that there were statistically significant differences at the level of (0.05) in the mean scores of the Pre and Post Test treatments in favor of the post-test in the Biological Enlightenment Test. Concerning the Cognitive Scientific Sense Test, the results showed that there were statistically significant differences at the level of (0.05) in the means of the Pre and Post Test in all the domains in favor of the Post Test. The results also showed that there were statistically significant differences at the level of (0.05) in the means of the Pre and Post Tests of the Scientific and Emotional Sense in all the domains in favor of the Post Test. There were also statistically significant differences at the level of (0.05) in the means of the Pre and Post Tests of the Measurement of the Love of Learning in all the domains in favor of the Post Test. The results also showed that there was an enormous effect for the proposed program which is based on the biological innovation in developing the biological enlightenment, scientific sense and the love of learning among the student-teachers of Biology in the Faculty of Education, Sana’a University. Then, the researcher recommended that the culture of biology innovations and its applications should be spread among all the students in all majors. They should be aware of the ethics, use, importance and disadvantages of the biological innovations. The researcher also recommended that the current curriculum of the teacher preparations programs of science in the Faculty of Education should be analyzed, reviewed, and developed in the light of the scientific and biological innovations.
