The effectiveness of a program for teaching literary texts based on active learning strategies in developing literary criticism skills among secondary school students in the Republic of Yemen

Abstract

The aim of this study is to build a program based on active learning strategies in developing literary criticism skills among secondary school students in the Republic of Yemen, and to compare that with students who study the same subject in the usual way. The analytical descriptive approach and the experimental approach were used. The research sample consisted of (80) Male and female students from two public schools in the Al-Thawra Directorate in the capital Sana’a (Khalid bin Al-Walid School and Aisha School) during the first semester of the academic.


To achieve the objectives of the study, the following tools were used: (a list of literary criticism skills - a test measuring literary criticism skills from the book of Literature and Texts for the first secondary grade “Semester One” - a program based on active learning to teach literary texts to develop literary criticism skills among first year secondary students.
The study reached a number of results, the most important of which are the following:



  1. There are statistically significant differences at the level of significance (0.05) between the mean scores of the two applications: (pre and post) among the students of the experimental group in the literary criticism skills achievement test in favor of the post application.

  2. There are statistically significant differences at the level of significance (0.05) between the mean scores of students of the two groups: (experimental and control) in the post application of literary criticism skills test in favor of the experimental group.

  3. There are statistically significant differences at the level of significance (0.05) between the mean scores of the experimental group students in the post application of the Literary Criticism Skills test due to the gender variable.

  4. The effectiveness of the program that was prepared to teach literary texts based on active learning strategies in developing literary criticism skills among first year secondary students.
