Abstract

The research studies Barat dialect, aiming to extract linguistic phenomena in this dialect and understand the meanings and origins of its vocabulary. This is done to facilitate comprehension of the words for those who are interested and provide a linguistic study of Barat dialect for future researchers. The reasons for studying this topic lie in the rarity of previous studies on it and the presence of noteworthy phenomena in this dialect that deserve investigation to uncover its essence and hidden aspects. The research community relied on listening and referring to Arabic dictionaries to clarify these phenomena. The researcher adopted the inductive method to gather the phenomena and the descriptive-analytical method to study them. The research is divided into two sections, preceded by an introduction and followed by a conclusion. The first section is "Linguistic Levels," consisting of three subsections: the phonetic level, the morphological level, and the syntactic level. The second section is about "Vocabulary in Barat Dialect," which includes subsections on agricultural terms, household terms, and miscellaneous terms. The research has come up with multiple results, the most important of which are: the significant role of phonetic variation in dialectal differences and diversity, the existence of eloquent phenomena in Barat dialect, such as "tamtamaniyyah" and "shinshinah," the presence of recitations from the Quran and Prophetic traditions in verb forms, the difference in assimilation compared to Standard Arabic, the prefix "ba" in the dialect, which indicates reception, the use of interrogative sentences without interrogative particles such as “Jaa’a Abook?” (your father came?), and the alignment of many words in the dialect with their meanings in dictionaries.
