The impact of identity on Yemeni foreign policy2014-2025

  This study aimed to analyze the impact of identity on Yemeni foreign policy during the period 2014–2025, relying on the foreign policy analysis approach and constructivist theory in international relations. The study employed content analysis as a tool to analyze the discourse of the revolutionary and political leadership. The study reached a number of findings, most notably: the multiplicity of definitions of the concept of identity, which, despite agreeing that identity signifies distinctiveness, differed regarding its elements, components, types, and levels. The results also showed that the dominant identity within Yemeni identity is the faith-based Islamic identity, whose principles and features are those of the tolerant Islamic religion, represented in: the principle of liberation from servitude to tyranny and servitude to anyone other than God, awareness, enlightenment and insight, preserving human and moral values, justice and equity, and responsibility. The study also demonstrated that this identity has a clear impact on the principles, goals, and orientations of Yemeni foreign policy, and that this faith-based Islamic identity is of great importance, which calls for re-examining many topics in political science in general, and highlights the importance of proceeding according to the divine approach rather than the positivist theories that have proven to be failed and inadequate.
