Teacher Qualification and Training, and Educational Capacity Building for Post-War Reconstruction in Sudan
This paper outlines a strategic framework for teacher training and qualification as well as educational capacity building in the context of Sudan’s post-war recovery. Using a mixed-methods, multi-phase action research design, the study addresses the education crisis and suggests a solution through needs assessment, trauma-informed and peacebuilding curriculum, a Training of Trainers (ToT) model, and robust monitoring systems. Survey data collected from 300 teachers in Khartoum, Bahri, Omdurman (representing the epicentre of the conflict) reveal that 72% of participants experienced trauma, 81% seek emergency classroom management training, 63% are internally displaced persons (IDPs), and 88% have professional-growth motivation. It is hoped that the framework will help strengthen local educational institutions to ensure sustainable recovery and enable teachers to engage actively in social healing and peacebuilding. The paper also highlights the significance of education as a cornerstone of national reconciliation and long-term development.
