The Hadiths on the Sutrah in Prayer from the book Al-Ilmam bi Ahadith al-Ahkam by Al-Allamah Al-Samawi: An Applied, Verified, and Referenced Study
This study examines and critically investigates the book “Muntahā al-Ilmām bi-Aḥādīth al-Aḥkām” by the distinguished scholar and judge Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ al-Samāwī (d. 1241 AH), focusing on the ḥadīths related to the sutrah (barrier) of the praying person, through authentication and analysis. The research aims to highlight the scholarly value of the book by analyzing al-Samāwī’s methodology in dealing with ḥadīth, identifying his sources, approach to documentation, and method of judgment on narrations. The study begins with a comprehensive biography of Imām al-Samāwī, followed by an examination of his methodology in the book, and presents a practical model through the authentication and analysis of the ḥadīths concerning the sutrah of the praying person.
The researcher adopted the analytical and critical method in studying the ḥadīths, the descriptive method in presenting the author’s biography, and the inductive method in collecting the narrations. The study concludes that Imām al-Samāwī followed a precise methodological approach in ḥadīth classification, combining extensive documentation with scientific criticism, making his book an important reference for both jurists and ḥadīth scholars. The research recommends completing the verification and publication of this eminent scholar’s remaining works.
