Copyright & Licensing Policy

Sana’a University Journal of Applied Sciences and Technology (SUJAST) operates under an open-access model that maximizes the dissemination and reuse of scholarly work while protecting the moral rights of authors. This policy details the copyright and licensing arrangements for all content published in the journal.

  1. Copyright Retention
  • Authors retain copyright of their published work.
  • Upon acceptance, authors grant SUJAST a non-exclusive license to publish the article and identify itself as the original publisher.
  • Authors do not sign a copyright transfer agreement and retain full ownership of their intellectual property.
  1. Licensing: Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) 4.0

To facilitate open sharing and reuse, all articles in SUJAST are published under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

This license permits anyone to:

  • Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format.
  • Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, including commercial use.

Under the following condition:

  • Attribution — You must give appropriate credit to the original authors and the journal, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.
  1. Author Rights and Permissions

Because authors retain copyright under a CC BY license, they are free to:

  • Deposit the final published PDF in institutional repositories (e.g., university library) or subject repositories (e.g., ResearchGate, Academia.edu) immediately.
  • Re-publish the article in a book or thesis.
  • Re-use portions of the article in their own future works.
  • Share copies of the article for teaching or conference purposes.
  • Enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to a commercial repository).
  1. Reader and Reuser Rights

In accordance with the CC BY license, readers and third parties have the right to use published content without seeking further permission from the authors or publisher, provided proper attribution is given.

  1. Permissions for Third-Party Material

It is the author’s sole responsibility to:

  • Obtain written permission from the copyright holder for any material (e.g., figures, tables, extensive quotations) that is reproduced from previously published sources.
  • Ensure such permissions allow for reproduction under the CC BY 4.0 license.
  • Clearly acknowledge the source of such material within the manuscript.
  1. Practical Procedures
  • Author Agreement: Upon manuscript submission, authors will be asked to confirm their agreement with this copyright and licensing policy.
  • Attribution Example: Proper attribution when reusing a SUJAST article should cite the authors, journal name, volume, issue, article ID/DOI, and note the CC BY license.
  1. Archiving Policy

The journal’s copyright and licensing policy supports long-term preservation. The journal permits and encourages authors to self-archive their articles in institutional and thematic repositories.
